Poems, October 2006:

Sunnyside Up-

Sunburn on my fingernails
When I dig for you
In the twilight
Before the night
You closed your eyes forever
In the autumn leaves
Where I left you
Covered with colors
Only you can remember
Wind chimes and neon lights
Fill the sky
And your lips
Are my lips
And everything will
Turn to dirt
You can't hide
From the scratches
You tore yourself
Like firewood
On the night
The twilight turned
The sky to fairy dust.

Hindsight-

I tasted your outfit with the back of my hand
And spiraled in and out of love
I kicked a heel with uniforms against the wall
And crippled far into the snow
I drew tongues from mouths
And broke them from flesh
I bled myself and unfed myself
And passed you barefoot on the floor
But I think it's too late to love myself.

Tick Tock-

Finger puppets, social climbers
Dig beneath my eyes
For better days to remember
I've never been a virgin
Curls of smoke disguise my mind
I can live with scratches in my skull.

Backwash-

You were brought to life by rusty blue eyes
She lit you one and stripped you down
They say be brave until morning
But their dresses aren't wrinkled underneath the ground
And they aren't walking barefoot over men
That's suicide and every time you wake
You feel it.

Devil's Advocate-

Coffee stains to your right
And snow on the traffic light
Blinking red
Plastic breaks to your left
And she covers her face with bloodshot leaves
She chose your heart.

[For] December-

Collecting dusty eyelashes with old spun records
Before they hit the snow
And bleed like fossils through the dirt
Watching her footsteps glow
Like one martini in your throat
And a mask for self control.

Runway-

Her raw legs are buried further and
Rain puddles linger beneath her
Hair caught under her fingernails
Bite hard against the spilled ground
And she's filled with skin
But it's his.

Birthmark-

And with her eyes she tore your pain away
With broken glass on her childhood floor
Spoken too long underwater
Again. Rum dyes her lips
And you find them
Ice cold, just to take your breath away.

No Smoking Sign-

Hangovers and ashtrays on the second floor
Saved by sex appeal and strands of hair
Lady eyes and darker skies
We'll compromise.

Libido-

Basement funds for plaid dresses
When you're up to your heels in a strip tease
And you think how he likes the lips of her
And you know how to find his lightning eyes
In the corner
On the carpet
Her dress at his feet, his tongue in her mouth.

Himitsu-

Chapters kept under your bed
Face down is how she left you
When you said you couldn't make it
Take me to the tears in your Wall
And feed me censored memories
Undressed in your eyes
Bled from your thighs
And I will take you there.

Snow Day-

February is in love with me
When snowflakes hide inside my hair
And green was so last year
Garbage bags inside my shoes
To comfort me tomorrow
Angels on my back
To keep me warm over the snow
I'm blushing everywhere.
